2025 Sauvignon Blanc, Crystal Springs Vineyard, Napa Valley
Winemaker's Tasting Notes:
2025 Napa Herold Sauvignon Blanc is produced from Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Musque grapes grown in Crystal Springs. Grapes were whole-cluster pressed and fermented in egg-shaped concrete fermenters to preserve primary aromatics and textural clarity. The nose is delicately layered with Fuji apple, chamomile, Bosch pear, ripe stone fruit, flint and wildflower honey. Subtle lifts of kiwi, marzipan and fresh strawberry add further complexity. The palate is vibrant and generous, delivering cascades of pineapple, guava and saline rock minerals. Acidity is crisp, clean and finely integrated, giving precision and lift to the fruit. Exceptionally balanced with a silky, expansive mouthfeel, the wine finishes long and resonant. Drink now for immediate pleasure or cellar briefly for added complexity.
Vintage Notes
The 2025 growing season was cooler with ample rainfall and no major heat events, yielding a classic-style vintage defined by phenolic ripeness at lower brix, deep color, and lushness without power. Heavy winter rains provided abundant soil moisture that reduced irrigation needs, while a cool summer with only eight days above 95°F allowed gradual ripening and stronger site expression. Early phenolic ripeness and lower seed tannins enabled extended macerations and high early color extraction, producing wines with weight, texture, and generally lower alcohol—signs of quality and age-worthiness. Periodic harvest rains and higher-than-expected yields required careful logistics and vigilant canopy management to control mildew, and harvest choices balanced fruit quality with market and inventory, rewarding patience with wines emphasizing balance and finesse.
