Winemaker's Notes:

The 2025 Herold Sauvignon Blanc comes from the Uboldi Vineyard near Kenwood in Sonoma and is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Musque grapes. Grapes were whole-cluster pressed and fermented in egg-shaped concrete vessels to preserve purity and texture. The wine is delicate yet layered, offering dazzling aromatics of Bosch pear, white stone fruit, lemon curd, flint and fresh white flowers. Subtle notes of grapefruit, guava, and crushed rock add complexity and lift. The palate shows off a silkiness alongside focused verve, with juicy fruit framing bright acidity and mineral tension. Exceptionally balanced, the wine marries richness and backbone with precision. Finishes long and resonant, leaving a lingering brightness.

Vintage Notes

The 2025 growing season was cooler with ample rainfall and no major heat events, yielding a classic-style vintage defined by phenolic ripeness at lower brix, deep color, and lushness without power. Heavy winter rains provided abundant soil moisture that reduced irrigation needs, while a cool summer with only eight days above 95°F allowed gradual ripening and stronger site expression. Early phenolic ripeness and lower seed tannins enabled extended macerations and high early color extraction, producing wines with weight, texture, and generally lower alcohol—signs of quality and age-worthiness. Periodic harvest rains and higher-than-expected yields required careful logistics and vigilant canopy management to control mildew, and harvest choices balanced fruit quality with market and inventory, rewarding patience with wines emphasizing balance and finesse.
